What’s the best new hotel in the country?

It’s the Asbury Hotel in Asbury Park, according to readers of USA Today’s 10Best section. A panel of hotel experts and editors chose 20 new hotels across the country and the nominees were voted upon by readers online.

The Asbury, which opened on Memorial Day weekend,  was cited for being a “social hub” and for its “grab-and-go kitchen, ground-floor lounge with ping pong and board games, a community table and a pool during the warmer months. Amenities in the 110 guest rooms include large closets, custom-made mattresses and stellar seaside views,” according to 10Best.

The 110-room Asbury Hotel is owned by iStar and operated by Salt Hotels.

“We are thrilled to be named the best new hotel in America, It has been an amazing first year for us and we could not be happier, thank you to our incredible team and to everyone who voted for us,” said David Bowd, operator of the Asbury.

Voting closed on Monday, Jan 2. The Hotel Emma in  San Antonio finished second and the Andaz Scottsdale Resort & Spa in Scottsdale, Ariz. was third.

The hotel is currently hosting “Transparent,” a visual and interactive exhibit featuring the works of Jersey Shore celeb photographer Danny Clinch. An exhibit space has been transformed into Clinch’s “artistic studio” and is appointed with vintage furniture by noted local designer, Tina Kerekes.

Clinch of Toms River is today’s leading music photographer  who has shot everyone from Bruce Springsteen to Tupac Shakur. He was recently profiled by Anderson Cooper on CBS’ “60 Minutes.” Clinch will perform with the Tangiers Blues Band at the Hotel 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan 14 as part of the Light of Day Winterfest, which raises funds in the fight against Parkinson’s Disease. The hotel was converted from the Salvation Army building at 5th Avenue and Kingsley. Visit www.theasburyhotel.com for more information or to make a reservation.
