After a snowy, blustery weekend in South Jersey, it’s a bit of a tease to start dreaming about the balmy weather that awaits us several months from now.
But since that’s typically what gets most of us through the winter, it should come as good news today that the editors of USA Today’s 10Best series have kicked off their 2017 rankings with a major nod to the Jersey Shore.
If you’re looking to plan a fun and family-oriented shore trip this summer, you may want to consider heading to Asbury Park, which boasts the best new hotel in the United States.
With the help of experts in the hospitality world, 10Best determined that The Asbury, a seaside hotel that debuted last Memorial Day weekend, has everything you’re looking for and more.
Imagined as a hotel and social hub in Asbury Park, The Asbury features a grab-and-go kitchen, ground-floor lounge with ping pong and board games, a community table and a pool during the warmer months. Amenities in the 110 guest rooms include large closets, custom-made mattresses and stellar seaside views.
There’s plenty this blurb left out, too. As a tribute to Asbury Park’s historic Baronet Theatre, demolished in 2010, The Asbury built a 4,300-square-foot rooftop space on the sixth floor that offers an entertainment sanctuary for hotel guests. Complete with beer, wine and popcorn, the space serves as a “carless” drive-in movie theater with classic and cult movies projected onto a 20-foot wall. It can also be reserved for private events and hosts “Sunrise Yoga” sessions during the spring months.
A year-round calendar of events also plays to Asbury Park’s emergence as a cultural center for live concerts. If you really want to be daring, you can sign up to perform at one of The Asbury’s regularly scheduled open mic events.
As for accommodations, the 110-room hotel offers 10 different room designs to suit the needs of any type of visitor. It’s quite a turnaround for the former Salvation Army building on Fifth Avenue, which was rehabilitated by hotel owner iStar in a $50 million project The New York Times celebrated as a big step toward the resort town’s revival.
