Tandem contributes a portion of the month’s sales toward a different public school teacher’s project in Monmouth and Ocean counties.
Saddle up. There’s a new ride coming to town in the form of Tandem Cycle, and the buzz is already building thanks to the studio’s mind-body approach and built-in charity component—with a portion from every ride going to DonorsChoose to fund the projects of local teachers. The name itself says it all.
“Every time you clip in, you’re riding for yourself and you’re riding for others,” says founder Maryclaire Pennotti. “You’re in tandem with yourself, the music, the people around you, and the entire community.” The New Jersey native and former pediatric nurse practitioner started the studio after moving back to the area and finding a lack of the high-intensity fitness options she’d come to rely on for stress relief. Though the rides (either 45 or 60 minutes) guarantee total body toning and a high sweat factor, the real goal is to leave feeling lighter than you started. “This isn’t about the scale. That will happen—but we really get excited when we see people feeling more empowered, confident, and connected.”
After she spent a career caring for others, integrating the charity component was an absolute no-brainer for Pennotti. Tandem Cycle was built with a dual goal to both better the patrons as well as the world around them. Partnering with DonorsChoose, Tandem contributes a portion of the month’s sales toward a different public school teacher’s project in Monmouth and Ocean counties. The more you ride, the more you provide.
And while fitness fiends will find themselves right at home, newbies need not feel intimidated. “It’s a great workout for beginners,” says Pennotti. “The room is dimly lit and the music is loud. Come to your first few classes, and just pedal out your legs in the back to get a feel for the vibe. It’s a perfect way to ease in.”
With a new location at 302 Cookman Ave. in Asbury Park on the way, pop-up rides are happening around town now. So keep your eyes peeled.
